Where Does the $$ Come From??
by Dia inmany, many people have lengthy recollections of getting nowhere in field service.. no bible studies, not much placement of magazines or books, especially not for significant cash.. so where is the wts getting all their money from?.
i've been wondering..... are (and were) dubs expected to purchase a certain amount of materials every month and then just take on the responsibility of getting rid of it (and getting back their money) themselves?.
if so, you know what that would mean.... it would mean that the wts's millions mostly come from their own 'flock'.

Hello Scully
We had stopped attending meetings for about a year, before we were approached by my step father (now an elder, then a MS) about having a sheparding call, from an Elder we dispised (as did the whole cong). We told my step father not to bother as it had been left too long and our dissatisfaction was on deep doctrinal issues. That would have to be about 8 years ago and we have never heard since. We dont even get them calling in when their on field service in our area. Interstingly we where constantly called on during this 12 month period of inactivity, to refresh and relieve themselves......
We have not disassociated ourselves or been disfellowshiped (to our knowlegde), but that doesnt seem to get in their way of shunning us. Out of interest our family consists of 1 Elder, 1 MS, 1 Reg pioneer, 3 sisters in good standing and 1 brother in good standing and then their is US..... He has since joined the military (which hasnt been announced in our old cong) and I go to uni - both very bad, bad bad people.... did I tell you we are BAD!!!!

TENNIS: Serena's double warning - Advertiser 14th Jan 2003
15jan03SHAKY top seed Serena Williams copped two warnings during her tense centre court escape to barely stay alive in the Australian Open yesterday.
A linesman dobbed her in to the woman chair umpire for swearing during the second set frustrations over the dogged resistance of French left-hander Emilie Loit. And the other warning was none-too-subtle either following the eventual 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 first round win that the world No. 1 won't want to tempt fate with such an error-riddled start against opponents ranked closer to her lofty perch.
I read it somewhere that it started with a 'f' and ended with a 'k'..... add a 'ed' and thats how she played all right!!

My husband doesn't understand this...
by starfish422 inmy husband does not understand what my attraction is to this board.
i come and go on the boards, i'm not a regular by any means, but i find that the boards are a catharsis for me.
my hubby was never in the borg, and he doesn't understand how talking about it, and comparing experiences, and poking fun at the craziness of it all, can interest me.

I agree with what everyone else has said.
As its quite obvious, we're knew it the board and discovered it quite by accident by Mr CM. Its no so much re-living your experiences as a JW, its the comfort that offered by not having to believe that we're the only ones having a crisis of faith, whether past or present. Its also a way of venting your speen about the injustice we have all suffered in one form or another.
Perhaps the biggest thing the board offers is the opportunity to find like minded people, and no doubt you partner wouldn't understand how people you have known your whole life can without any hesitation ignore you can treat you as dead. Its a hard thing to create an entire life, replace friends and family, start family traditions, and enjoy what life has to offer. Indeed many have to 'catch up' financially because their spent their adult working life 'living simply' and not 'getting carried away with the showing things of life' working as window washers in order to spend more time in field service. So theres much for a XJW to do and laughing at yourself is the most healing and a way to put your experience in perspective, afterall we werent the only ones....... and you can than GOD for that!!!!

Hawk.... I'm unable of obtaining the full artical and have no back ground knowledge, so if the case hasnt previously been to court, it should first be in the decided in the criminal court, then it can become a civil matter.
So when dealing with criminal law it is a matter of evidence - the question being whether the defendant committed the said act. If the matter is civil - then its a matter of duty of care as this is the primary issue and must be favourably decided before the matter can continue. So in civil, the question becomes whether the WT has a duty of care, and then to whom is this duty owed, only to members of the WT or to the wider community, ( this burden is on the Plaintiff). And then it is decided whether the WT discharged their duty of care and how, which must be shown by the defendant.
From your reply it appears that the crim trail has been decide in the Plaintiffs favour and now it is a matter of a civil trial to decide whether any damages/compensation orders can be made. A settlement would probably be in the interest of the WT but no doubt the plaintiff would rather this case be made public and a legal precedent be made, which will hopefully open the way for other abused WT vitims to come forward and be rightly compensated, afterall you have to hit them where it hurts and sadly it appears to be the pocket as they have no heart, compassion or christian love.

It will be hard, however, fighting the unpaid WTS volunteer lawyers with equivalent paid ones, and the WTS is excellent in finding snakes who can slither through any argument and flummox multiple judges. - Reporter
I think your underestimating the abilites of lawyers and especially legal arguments, ofcourse it remains the onus of the Plaintiff to "prove" the allegation, but there are many finely trained lawyers who combined with their moral indignation will be more than challenging to any lawyer the WT can provide. Lawyers are parents too!! ( Yes they breed)
am trying to see if I can get the responses to the victim and post them online - Pistoff
Well Pistoff, attend the trial if possible and take notes and post them yourself, most trials are open for the public to attend and there is nothing illegal in taking your own notes (unless it is a closed court). The other alternatives are monitor newpapers, or convince someone you know thats a lawyer to do some research of 'westlaw' for you. Its a web site, available to lawyers (inc international ones) that provides all USA court decisions, usually within half on hour of being made. It might sound familiar to you if you watch The Practise, yes it does exist in real life. Or you could keep posting this as an enquiry and hope that another 'postate has access to westlaw. Email me if you want more info.

Abused By Priest, In Jail For Murder, Now a JW
by Funchback inno parole hearing for alleged geoghan victim
by john ellement, globe staff, 1/14/2003
former boston man who alleges that sexual abuse by a pedophile priest indirectly led him to savagely murder an elderly roslindale woman in 1981 will remain in prison after the state parole board rejected his commutation request.. acting as advisers to governor mitt romney, the board voted 7-0 friday against holding a public hearing to consider whether james m. costello should be eligible for parole.

Curious Mind
Was he expecting preferential treatment ie parole, because he had become a JW in recent years.
I hope the screams of his 80 year old victim haunt him EVERY night, and he receives the same amount of mercy from Jehovah on his judgement day- none, absolutely none!!
Theres a real good chance of that.

Crackdown on Child Porn
by Dia infyi - theres'a big news story (ap) out of toronto today about an international crackdown on child porn.
apparently, thanks to the internet, they have been able to trace thousands of people.
yippee!
-
Curious Mind
Well the internet is a two edged sword, so thanks to the internet child porn is now available to a much wider audience. Previously Child porn would have been held in tightly knitted groups, because of the risk of detection, the internet gives the user a degree of anonymity whether real or imagined however this is becoming increasingly imagined as police are able to retrieve credit card details from these web pages. But bear in mind that the internet has been around for approximately 10 - 7 years, these pervets have had unlimited access to child porn, until recently and are often more technologically advanced than authorities, due to funding restrictions.
So yes the internet has been a source of detecting child porn, but it has also been a method in its distribution.

DOH i just turned around and had a nice little cry.
